Week 1 Info

Page history last edited by PBworks 16 years, 6 months ago

Hi everyone--you should have all gotten an email inviting you to the wiki, with the address and password (ccaf07).

There will be more items added over the weekend, so please check back again before Monday. Any significant entry/updates will get a notice here on the front page, so you don't have to hunt around to find what's new.

Your assignment for Monday is to browse through the site, read the articles and links, and try to get a good overview sense of the topics. Then you should decide the priority of site/scenarios you are most interested in, and we'll have a lottery on Monday to match up teams with the topics.

Most of the site and scenario pages have just one or two articles or text entries--these are meant to be starting points for your own further exploration and research, not the total information on which to make your choices. I would suggest you try to browse through this first level of information that is presented on the wiki, then go back to the ones that interest you the most. Put some key words from the articles into Google and see where it takes you. If you find something interesting, please copy the link and post it on the page. The best way to do this is to make a brief 1-2 sentence description of what the link is to, insert the text of the link, and then put in a separator bar like the one below--it is available on the tool menu above when you are editing the page (between the "insert table " and "insert plugin" buttons.

Week 2

FOR MONDAY:

Hi Everyone.  We'll be having a guest lecturer and a review on Monday, Sept 17th.

The lecturer will discuss BIM and performative building components as it relates to BIM.

For the review we ask that each group develop their site and program more specifically. Add the following information to YOUR GROUP wiki site.

Site:

Select one or two sites for your community center location.

If you choose a decentralized site or more than one site, we recommend developing one PROTOTYPE building with customized options, so that you will be (at minimum) able to fully delineate all building sysytems.

Include the following information:

  • Aerial image of your province in context with China.
  • Google Site aerials with road/site info/contour overlays at the following scale intervals:
    • 1"=2000', 1"=1000', 1"=500', 1"=200'
    • 1"=20' (site plan AND aerial underlay)
    • we will consider the extent of site and final site plan scale with each group, depending on site strategy
  • Site Sections 1"=200' and 1"=20'

This is not meant to create busy work, but for you to understand your site scale intuitively.

  • Include topographic contours, stormwater sheetflow direction, prevailing wind and microclimate wind directions, and north orientation on your 1"=20' site plan
  • Identify pertinent regional information at interval levels (ie lable Mountain ranges, major highways, cultural sites, infrastructure, etc.)

Program:

Create a laundry list of programmatic elements for your community center.

Brianstorm around your community demographic AND consider hybrid spaces as you list them.

At minimum, each Community Center will likely include, the following:

Assembly space for a group of 100

Food Prep area

Temperature controlled area for medical and food storage

Clinic/Admin

Toilets (quantity and types tbd)

Storage for mechanical equipment and assembly materials
